Mikhail Strutynsky Museum of Folk Art

Mykhailo Strutynskyi Museum of Folk Art (Kosiv, 1a Tykha St.)
Since 1961, the Strutynskys have been collecting old Ukrainian clothes, household items, samples of Ukrainian embroidery, dishes, paintings, and icons. In those distant times, shirts were not embroidered. It was all forbidden. Even for simple embroidery, one could be convicted of nationalism and imprisoned. The entire collection was assembled bit by bit, and for many years. And in 2007, the Strutynskys donated their invaluable collection to the city so that children could study Ukrainian history and traditions not only from textbooks.

The museum is located in the school of arts and occupies two large halls and a corridor. The exposition features a large number of works by folk artists from Hutsul, Pokuttya, Podillia and Bukovyna - ancient icons, embroidery, painting, ceramics, folk clothes, weaving and much more.
M. Strutynskyi's collection includes clothing components of the highlanders of Ivano-Frankivsk region - embroidered shirts, a collection of folk embroideries, which includes about 10 thousand pieces. A very
valuable and unique collection of paintings. Original household items made of wood and artistically decorated with the technique of "burning" and "artistic carving" stand out: spindles, boklags, counters, barrels, chests.
The museum also has a collection of leather goods (stilts, boots, bags, belts, jewellery), which are distinguished by their shape and ornamentation.
